Chaps control Prairie State

The Chaparrals opened a seven-game homestand Thursday afternoon by running away from Prairie State, winning 17-9 and 12-2 in Region 4 baseball.
 
COD, now 15-17 overall, plays host to Roosevelt JV-Chicago in a nine-inning game Friday. First pitch is 1 p.m.
 
Game 1: Chaps 17, Prairie State 9
A six-run deficit meant nothing to Bobby Wilson's team, which scored 14 runs in the sixth inning. Trailing 9-3, the Chaps batted around twice in the decisive inning. A three-run triple from Mike Wagner put the Chaps up 10-9. All told, they totaled eight hits in the inning. Wagner finished with four RBI, and Cliff Vickers went 4-for-4 with two doubles. Seth Borden, Cam Bailey, Kendall Simpson (double and triple) and Nolan Pomatto all had two hits. Zak Fischer threw  three innings of relief for the win. He had two strikeouts and allowed just three. Hits.
 
Game 2: Chaps 12, Prairie State 2 5 innings
The Chaps utilized a big inning, this time with eight runs in the fifth for the victory.  Leading 4-2,  the Chaps scored their eight runs on just two hits. Giovanni Lopez, Jack Oberli and Danny Holloway all had two hits, while Oberli and Holloway led with two RBI apiece. The Chaps threw four pitchers with reliever Adam Scheid earning the win in two innings of work. Both Frankie Klemm and Mike Sullivan struck out two.
