Sophomore All-American Kevin Diederich and freshman Miguel Capulin led the Chaparrals with top-20 finishes Friday night to lead COD at its season opener contested at Channahan Park and hosted by St. Francis.

Diederich covered the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes and 5.5 seconds to finish 18th and Capulin placed 20th in 16:12.4 as COD placed fifth, the highest junior college place in the 11-team event.

Addisu Wolski was 32nd, followed by Jack Schultz (38th) and Patrick Hohe (47th).

COD is off until Sept. 14 when they compete at the Spartan Invite at Geneva's Northwestern Medicine Cross Country course.
