A closer look at Thursday night's line score showed a much improved effort in the Chaparrals' meeting against the Aurora JV.
 
The Chaps extended their opponent in the match's first two sets in a 26-24, 28-26, 25-19 defeat against the Spartans.
 
"We fought pretty hard and played much more inspired than in our first meeting,'' head coach Tolis Koskinaris said. "We're making improvement each match as we prepare for the final weeks of play.''
 
Hayln Balon and Natalie Payne each had eight kills and Brili Presbrey added six for the Chaps. Payne finished with 12 ½ points and Balon 10. Mikayla Wassell, who had three service aces, had nine points.
 
Setter Melody Raices set up her teammates with 25 assists and 15 digs. Mariana Silva added 14 digs.
 
The Chaps had 12 aces on the night with Payne joining Wassell with three.
 
The Chaps are at Highland on Friday night when they take on the host squad and Bryant and Stratton.
