The Chaparrals nearly overcame a 17-point deficit, but fell just short in their 72-68 loss to host Glen Oaks (Mich.) Community College in NJCAA men's basketball Saturday afternoon.
 
Latron Kirkwood put the Chaps on his back, scoring nearly half of his team's points with 32. He was 10 of 26 from the field with four 3-pointers and hit 8 of 12 free throws. Patrick Shaughnessy scored nine points and Joe Bell added seven. Evan Wagner-Talley had six.
 
Trailing 51-34 with 16:21 remaining, Kirkwood scored 15 of his points in the final 10 minutes. His final field goal was a 3-pointer with four seconds left that brought the score 71-68.
 
The Chaps (2-12) return home and begin the N4C schedule Thursday night when they play Triton. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
