Chaps conclude Florida trip

The Chaparrals concluded their Spring Break trip Sunday afternoon, dropping a doubleheader to Iowa Central 9-1 and 12-1 in games that were shortened in the fifth inning.
 
Kate Koska homered in the opener for the Chaps, who are 3-13 overall and make their home opener Wednesday afternoon against Moraine Valley.
 
Game 1: Iowa Central 9, Chaps 1 5 innings
Koska led off the fourth inning a bomb over the center-field wall that broke up Iowa Central's shutout bid.
 
The Chaps totaled four hits with Kiara Negron joining Koska in extra-base hits. She doubled in the first. Andrea Richards and Madison Briggs each singled.
 
Game 2: Iowa Central 12, Chaps 1 5 innings
Karen Martini led the Chaps with a 2-for-3 effort and an RBI, but Iowa Central was too strong in securing the sweep.
 
The Chaps had five hits with Briggs, Sydney Sturino and Vincenza Zaccaro reaching base on singles.
