Sophomore RHP
Karen Martini threw a no-hitter in the opener to lead the Chaparrals in their 7-1 victory over Moraine Valley College in nonconference softball Saturday at Sark Park.
Â
Martini struck out two and walked just one as the Chaps snapped a four-game losing streak.
Â
The Chaps (8-27 overall), who lost the second game 9-5, return home Tuesday when they take on six-time defending NJCAA champion Rock Valley College. First pitch is 2 p.m.
Â
Game 1:
Martini was one over the minimum through five innings and controlled the Cyclones from the outset. The shut-out bid ended in the sixth when the Cyclones scored their only run without a hit. Jessica Coyle reached on a leadoff walk, and moved to third after a groundout and an infield error. She scored when teammate Madi Davis lifted a high fly that was caught by
Vincenza Zaccaro on the sac fly. Martini retired the order in the seventh. Offensively, the Chaps broke the game with a four-run sixth after leading 3-0.
Kate Koska led with a 3-for-3 game with two doubles.
Â
Game 2:
The Cyclones sent 12 batters to the plate in the fourth, scoring seven runs on seven hits. Koska led again, going 4-for-5 at the plate.
