Corey Vondra drove in eight runs, scored five runs and hit a grand slam as the Chaparrals destroyed Bryant and Stratton 27-2 in a Region IV baseball game Friday afternoon.
 
The Chaps (25-18-1 overall) return home Saturday against Saint Xavier junior varsity in a nine-inning game. The game originally was scheduled to play at Saint Xavier, but field conditions forced the game to COD. First pitch is noon.
 
The Chaps wasted little time, scoring four runs in both the first and second innings. They added nine in the fourth, then four in both the fifth and sixth. The game was called after seven innings.
 
Rocco Pascente homered twice, drove in five runs with a two-run homer in the first, and Jack Howard had three doubles with four RBI. Both Howard and Anthony Fumagalli (three doubles) had four hits to lead the 23-hit barrage. Mitch Sandleback added a solo homer in the fifth.
 
Jonny Vesevick earned the victory, going the distance with nine strikeouts. Both runs allowed were earned.
