The Chaparrals made the most of the seasonal White Out game to their advantage, scoring six unanswered runs in their 6-4 win over Carl Sandburg in the opener of Monday's doubleheader.

Gaby Morales each drove in two runs as the Chaps pounded 10 hits in the victory. Koska had two hits with a double and
Kiara Negron had two hits with a triple.
Alyssa Pham also tripled in the victory.
Andrea Richards balanced four solid innings on the mound with a hit.

The Chaps, who finished the season 12-37 overall, lost 8-6 in the nightcap. They led 5-4 through five innings, but the Chargers fought back and took the lead with a four-run sixth. Richards went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a double, and
Gaby Morales also had a double. Morales and
Angela Flammini each had two hits.

This week
COD plays host to the NJCAA Region IV Region III softball championship, beginning Friday. The championship includes six-time defending national champion Rock Valley. The Golden Eagles have the top seed, followed by No. 2 seed Joliet Junior College and No. 3 Elgin Community College. The tourney gets underway at noon Friday in the double-elimination format.
