Abram Ross's baseline drive with 5.2 seconds remaining lifted the Chaparrals past visiting Madison College 55-54 in N4C men's basketball Saturday.
Â
The victory was COD's second straight as the Chaps' swept the season series over the WolfPack by a cumulative two points. Last month, the Chaps hung on for an 80-79 win in Madison.
Â
Madison put itself in control in the second half, thanks to its 12-0 run with 11:46 to go and led 43-36.
Â
But the WolfPack couldn't put the game away and that allowed the Chaps to stay close. Trailing 47-45 with 7:48 to go, the Chaps earned momentum on a quick 6-0 spurt and stayed out front until the closing 90 seconds.
Â
Shamar Newman put Madison ahead 54-53 with 22 seconds left and the Chaps played for the final shot.
Â
Ross received the ball on the right baseline infront of the Chaps' bench. He drove to the paint and lofted a shot that found its way through the net for the lead.
Â
Madison's Davion Washington's desperation 3-pointer was off and the Chaps had their victory.
Â
Latron Kirkwood led the Chaps with 16 points and
Evan Wagner-Talley had 12 points with a team-high nine rebounds. Ross scored 11 and
Joe Bell had 10.
Â
The Chaps have won two straight and take a 5-7 N4C record into Wednesday night's game at Joliet.
Â
Newman led Madison with 17 points.
