Chaps boast big bats

The Chaparrals capped a successful spring break trip Thursday, earning a pair of one-sided victories with a 13-2 win over Southern Maine and a 12-2 win over Salem Community College in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Coach Bobby Wilson's team went 6-3 during its trip and won six of its last seven games. During that seven-game stretch, the Chaps averaged 11.7 runs and 11.2 hits per game.

They are scheduled to face Harper in a single game Monday at COD. First pitch is 2:30 p.m.

Chaps 13, Southern Maine 2 5 innings
The Chaps sent nine to the plate in the second, scoring five runs on four hits and they were never threatened again.

Mike Wagner and Cam Bailey each drove in three runs and Wagner led at the plate with COD's only extra-base hit, a two-run double in the fifth.

Wagner, Bailey and Sherman Martin each had two hits, with Martin totaled two RBI.

Tommy Louch threw just two innings with a pair of strikeouts. Mitchell Sandleback faced 10 batters in three innings and did not allow a run.

Chaps 12, Salem 2 5 innings

Nick Fushi hit a pair of solo home runs over the left-field wall and Jackson Gray kept his hot-hitting alive with two hits that included a two-run double in the fifth.

Gray finished the trip 15 for 26 with 11 RBI. He had four doubles, one triple and two homers, good for a .577 average and had at least one hit in each of the Chaps' nine games.

Earning a two-RBI game were Steven Salvino, Gray and Fushi.
