Runs in bunches lift Chaps to a sweep

Jocelyn Leerschen's Saturday featured a two-run inside-the-park homer as the Chaps earned their first win of the season with a 14-5 rout over Harper College during the N4C Dome Jamboree.
 
The Chaps then followed with an 18-0 win over Milwaukee Area TC. Both games were called after five innings due to the eight-run rule. COD (2-4, 2-4 N4C) is now off until Thursday when it participates in its annual Spring Break trip to Cocoa Beach, Fla.
 
Chaps 14, Harper 5 5 innings
Tied at 2-2, the Chaps broke the game wide open with an eight-hit, nine-run third when they sent 13 batters to the plate. Leerschen connected on a two-run double, and three batters later, Alyssa Vansickle's two-run single made the score 11-2.
 
Leerschen's homer came in the fifth.
 
Kelsey Warren, Nicole Brace, Ashley Eiermann and Sydney Sturino all doubled. Vansickle and Sturino each had two RBI games. Warren, Gaby Morales, Brace, and Sturino all had two hits. Eiermann and Vansickle had three hits apiece.
 
On the mound, Vansickle threw 2 innings with one strikeout and Warren threw 3 innings with one strikeout.
 
Chaps 18, Milwaukee Area 0 5 innings
The Chaps grabbed a 4-0 lead in their first at-bat, then added five runs in both the second and third and the rout was on.
 
The Chaps had eight extra-base hits — doubles from Morales, Leerschen, Brace and Eiermann and triples from Leerschen, Brace, Sturino and Sarah Crosby.
 
Leerschen and Brace each drove in five runs. Sturino had three RBI.
 
Vansickle threw 3 innings with three strikeouts and Brianna Sleboda tossed 2 innings with three strikeouts.
