The No. 3 Chaparrals' drive toward the postseason took a hit when it fell short against top-ranked Nassau College 17-15 on Saturday in Garden City, N.Y.

The host Lions (5-0 overall) took the lead for good on a 30-yard field goal with 12:30 remaining in the game.

COD had four possessions in the final 12-plus minutes, but could not sustain a drive. The Chaps gained 40 total yards and had just one drive in falling short in a game between the top two teams in the division.

Running back
Taveon Porter gave the Chaps a 15-14 on a 95-yard touchdown run with 9:05 left in the third quarter. He led the Chaps' ground game with 142 yards on 10 carries and had 251 all-purpose yards.

For the game, COD totaled 229 yards of offense. Quarterback
Brooks Blount was 10 of 21 passing with 59 yards.

Porter was a true sparkplug for the Chaps as he opened the game with a 98-yard kickoff return. On the second play from scrimmage,
Charlie King scored from the 2, but a failed PAT gave the Chaps a 6-0 lead with 13:20 left in the quarter.

Nassau grabbed the lead 7-6 on its second possession, but the Chaps answered right back with a 15-play, 62-yard drive capped by
Anthony Turnage's 31-yard field goal with 14:50 remaining in the second quarter.

Nassau again regained the lead, this time on a four-play, 75-yard drive capped by 47-yard TD run with 9:51 left and the Lions led 14-9 at halftime.

Michael Walker was credited with nine tackles including four solos.
Jalen Perkins had tackles (one solo) and
Jaylen Houston (4 solos, 3 assisted) and
Dominic Padjen (3 solos, 4 assisted) had seven total.
