Chaps rule the day in 58-0 victory

Statistics

No. 3 College of DuPage put together its most dominant performance on both ends of the field this season Saturday in a 58-0 win over Detroit Community Christian in NJCAA play at Bjarne Ullsvik Stadium.

The Chaps improved to 4-2 overall heading into next Saturday's game at Hocking.

COD scored on its first three possessions of the game — all on touchdown passes from quarterback Jarred Park —  and never looked back in the dominating victory.

Park struck paydirt on TD passes to Lazerick Eatman, Chase Mendoza and Charlie King. Fellow quarterback Peyton Brown delivered a 47-yard TD pass to Charlie King in the second quarter as the Chaps led at the break, 28-0.

"We needed to get back on track,'' head coach Matthew Rahn said. "Hopefully this type of win can translate into success for next week at Hocking.''

The second half was much of the same on the offensive end and the Chaps pitched a shutout.

"I kind of feel like how our team goes is how our defense goes,'' Chaps defensive coordinator Trevor Cipriano said. "Those guys set the tone and make plays. When we stay assignment sharp, we get ourselves in position to make plays. We were solid in all facets today and it showed.''

All four touchdowns scored in the second half were on the ground, thanks to the efforts of Tom Trieb, Mendoza, Taveon Porter and Jessi Plunkett. The Chaps' defense added a safety on the collective efforts of a 5-man tackle in the end zone.

"We felt like we had something to prove today,'' linebacker Don Manning said. "All week long we worked on fixing our mistakes from a tough loss at Nassau last week. When we work together and work hard, great things happen and they did today.''

Danarius Shaw, Joseph Holmes, Joe Swaray and Lochlain Hardin all had interceptions for COD.
