The No. 1 College of DuPage football team picked up a dominant 44-12 road victory over Hocking College on Sept. 12, improving to 3-1 on the season.

The Chaps jumped out to a 7-0 lead on a 41-yard touchdown pass from Reed Myers before taking advantage of a Hocking offsides penalty for a 20-yard touchdown pass on the ensuing free play.

COD's defense and special teams continued to make an impact throughout the first half. Chris Ellen returned a Hocking fumble 10 yards for a touchdown with 4:42 remaining in the first quarter. Hocking later scored, but the extra point was blocked by the Chaps, keeping the score at 21-6.

After a nine-minute COD drive ended with a 23-yard field goal from Max Weber, the Chaps added another special teams touchdown when a bad snap on a Hocking punt was recovered for a touchdown by Sterling Williams, making it 31-6.

Just before halftime, Myers connected with Ethan Mumbrue on a 47-yard touchdown pass to give the Chaps a 37-6 advantage at the break.

Myers finished 15-of-22 passing for 195 yards and four touchdowns.

COD rushed 30 times for 146 yards, led by Damari Jones with 42 yards. Gavin Sanders added 35 yards, while Mark Washington-Melton finished with 32.

Pat Pitello caught two passes for 45 yards and a touchdown, while Ishmael George had four receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown. Mumbrue added his 47-yard touchdown reception.

Brian Rzyski led the defense with seven tackles. Deegan Prater recorded six tackles and a forced fumble, while Ethan Buskirk, Luis Zepeda and James Ellis each had five tackles. Ellis added a sack and two tackles for loss.

The Chaps return home Sept. 19 for a rematch with LEAD Prep at 1 p.m. COD fell to LEAD Prep, 25-24, on Sept. 5.
