Limiting mistakes and making plays led to the Chaparrals' NJCAA Region 4 semifinal victory over Madison on Thursday night.
Â
The Chaps proved efficiency is the key in their 25-20, 25-21, 25-22 victory over the WolfPack. Coach
Tolis Koskinaris's team now moves on to the regional championship match Saturday at top-seed and the nation's top-ranked Rock Valley Golden Eagles.
Â
First serve is noon.
Â
It was a sweet win for the Chaps, who split their regular-season series with the Madison. Each team won at home, but Madison earned hosting rights by virtue of winning four of seven sets this season.
Â
On this night, the Chaps had fewer attack errors (14-21) and more power on the block (14-6).
Â
The Chaps' all-region performers (
Grace Franz,
Alyssa Fountain,
Emily DeBlecourt and
Jessica Juerke) had 28 of the Chaps' 34 kills in an all-around win.
Â
The Chaps hit .220 on the night (34 kills, 14 errors, 91 attacks) and limited Madison to just a .122 effort.
Â
On the block, DeBlecourt had five block assists and
Olivia Witek had four. Setter
Hanah Friel dealt 28 assists and Franz led in service aces with three.
Â
Saturday's winner moves on the NJCAA D3 National Championship on Nov. 11-13 in Rochester, Minn.
Â
Chaps honored with conference, region accolades
Â
Weekly appearances among the nation's top 10 volleyball programs are the reasons why the Chaparrals are featured among this year's NJCAA All-Region IV honors team.
Â
Alyssa Fountain,
Grace Franz,
Emily DeBlecourt and
Jessica Juerke were named to the honors squad, in a vote among regional head coaches.
Â
And in a vote for the N4C honors squads, Fountain was named to the first team, with Franz and DeBlecourt named to the second team.
Â
"It was pretty evident (Thursday) that all four played in a determined manner and have proven to be among the best in our region,'' Koskinaris said.
