The Chaparrals owned the competition Saturday, winning the NJCAA Region IV Division 3 race held at Kishwaukee College.

Freshman
Caleb DeBoer led the Chaps with a runner-up finish. He ran the 8,000 meter course in 26 minutes, 58 seconds. He, along with teammates
Sebastian Esparza (4
th) and
Anthony Eddy (5
th), earned all-region honors.

The Chaps won the meet with 33 points, four more than Joliet. Harper was third.

"The guys had a great day and it's good to come home with some hardware,'' said head coach
Robert Cervenka. "Four in the top nine with Erik (Ojeda) running well in the fifth spot is a good day, no question. Coach (Michelle) Stratton did a great job at getting both teams prepared for this weekend.''

The title is Cervenka's first in his six years at the helm.

The Chaps are off until the national championship on Nov. 13 in Milledgeville, Ga.
