Visiting McHenry County College used a critical 9-0 spurt early in the second half and the Chaparrals never recovered in a 62-52 loss in Region 4 men's basketball Friday night.
The Chaps (4-6 overall), who were led by
Drew Gaston's game-high 20 points, are off until Dec. 30 when they play host to Kalamazoo Valley.
Trailing 38-37 with 14:26 left in the game, the Scots used their pivotal spurt in just less than four minutes and led 47-37 with 12:33 to go on Jonah Ogunsanya's inside basket.
Gaston hit 9 of 18 from the floor, but COD totaled just 31 percent (21 for 68) for the game. It never led in the second half.
Down 30-20 with 4:33 in the first half, Gaston triggered an 8-0 run on his own and the Chaps trailed 34-30 at the half.
Abram Ross was the only other Chap who scored in double figures with 10.
