Winning streak ends

Ashley Eiermann led the Chaparrals with a pair of doubles and four RBI, but host Moraine Valley's five-run sixth inning gave the Cyclones the 12-8 win in Wednesday's Region 4 softball opener.
 
The Cyclones closed out the Chaps, who brought in a three-game winning streak into the doubleheader,  in the second game, winning 10-2 in five innings.
 
COD (5-3 overall) plays host to Kankakee on Monday afternoon. First pitch is 3 p.m.
 
Game 1: Moraine Valley 12, Chaparrals 8
Eiermann finished with a 2-for-5 effort with her RBI in the fourth and fifth innings. Her second double gave the Chaps an 8-7 lead before the Cyclones answered with their five-run rally.
 
Amber Dasenbrock had two singles with an RBI. Vincenza Zaccaro drove in the other run for the Chaps.
 
Game 2: Moraine Valley 10, Chaparrals 2
Zaccaro and Carolynn Keleher led the Chaps at the plate, each with a double in a game that was called after five innings.
 
Sydney Sturino, Paige Jahaske and Eiermann accounted for the other three hits for the Chaps.
