Quality relief, long ball lift Chaps past Bay College

A seven-game winning streak was on the line Thursday when the Chaps faced visiting Bay College.

Coach Bobby Wilson's team extended their winning streak to nine with a 7-6 and 14-1 drubbing of the Norse in non-region play.

The Chaps, now 22-17 overall, conclude their N4C season Friday when they take on Milwaukee Area TC. First pitch is 2 p.m.

Game 1: Chaps 7, Bay College 6 innings.
A combination of solid relief pitching from Frankie Klemm and clutch play at the plate was the difference. Klemm threw 3.1  no-hit innings and struck out seven and faced just 12 batters to give the Chaps a chance at the win. Cliff Vickers' solo home run tied the game at 6-6 in the sixth, and two innings later, the Chaps earned the win. Nolan Pomatto led off the inning on a hit by pitch. An intentional walk to Nick Fushi, a sac bunt from Zion Baker and another intentional walk to Vickers put the bases loaded with one out. Anthony Perez worked a five-pitch count and on the sixth, he, too, reached base on a hit by pitch to score Pomatto for the win. Vickers had tree hits.

Game 2: Chaps 14,  Bay College 1 5 innings
The Chaps took control with three home runs in the first inning. Pomatto and Dan Gusel clubbed two-run homers around Jack Oberli's solo shot. Jimmy Heintz also homered in the third. Pomatto led with five RBI along with three hits. Starter RHP Adam Scheid scattered eight hits, striking out three and allowing just one run.
