The 10
th-ranked Chaparrals earned a split over visiting Elgin in Region 4 softball Friday afternoon at Sark Park.

The Chaps, who lost the opener 6-4 and came back with a 7-4 victory in a game that was called after six innings due to darkness. They'll take their 9-5 overall record into Saturday's doubleheader at South Suburban, weather permitting.

Game 1: Elgin 6, Chaparrals 4
COD seemed to take control with a 3-0 lead after one inning, but Elgin held the Chaps hitless over the next five innings and held on for the win. Trailing 6-2 in the seventh,
Ashley Eiermann delivered a two-run shot over the right-center wall that scored
Kelsey Warren.
Amber Dasenbrock had a two-run single and Warren added a double. On the mound, Dasenbrock took the loss, despite striking out six.

Game 2: Chaps 7, Elgin 4 6 innings
A three-run home run by Dasenbrock in the third gave the Chaps a 4-3 lead and they never let up for the split. That home run was the Chaps' only extra-base hit against the Spartans. Both
Gianna Maida and Warren had run-scoring singles. Eiermann threw three innings in the start and struck out three. Dasenbrock came on in relief and struck out four without issuing a walk.
