Momentum goes Chaps' way

(l-r): Giovanni Lopez, Francisco Hernandez and Rian Batista (twice) led the Chaps past Black Hawk.
Box Score Two first-half goals in the opening 10 minutes of play Monday night put the Chaparrals in control in their 5-2 win over visiting Black Hawk in Region 4 men's soccer at Bjarne Ullsvik Stadium.

Rian Bautista opened the barrage in the 5th minute, and Giovanni Lopez followed in the ninth minute. Francisco Hernandez also scored in the first half and the Chaps went into the break leading 3-2.

Bautista created a two-goal difference in the 49th minute and the Chaps were awarded an own goal with just three seconds left in the game.

COD, now 4-2 overall, won for the fourth time in five games and has scored multiple goals in all six games in 2021.

Coach Zac Ludwig said his team needs to work on maintaining intensity.

"We realized how quickly we had the lead, and then we left our foot off the gas,'' he said. "Once we figured out that we needed to pick it up, we got going again. It was a good win.''

The Chaps are off toward a busy week. They play four games in six days, with games Wednesday (vs. Madison), Thursday (at Waubonsee) and Saturday (at Rock Valley).

"We got a lot of players minutes tonight and that's going to be helpful,'' Ludwig said. "We're up for the challenge.''
