Records for COD volleyball extends to the 2012 season and in that time the Chaps had dropped 17 straight matches to fellow N4C and Region 4 rival Harper College.
Â
That streak came to a crashing halt Tuesday night when the fifth-ranked Chaps routed the fourth-ranked Hawks 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-19).
Â
Coach
Tolis Koskinaris's team limited its errors on the attack and performed well on serve-receive while improving to 16-8 overall and 3-1 in the N4C.
Â
"We're very proud of our effort in a victory over a program that's been very good for a very long time,'' Koskinaris said. "We were focused and determined, and that's a credit to the work our team has put in all season long. We were mistake-free and played technically, a very sound match.''
Â
The Chaps hit .250 for the match, on the strength of 35 kills, just 11 errors in 96 attacks. On serve-receive, they totaled 10 aces with only four service errors.
Alyssa Fountain and
Emily DeBlecourt each had 10 kills, thanks to setter
Hanah Friel's 29 assists.
Â
Fountain led in aces with three, and
Ava Garcia and
Grace Franz followed with two apiece.
Â
The Chaps continue their road stretch with a match at Madison on Thursday. They return to the PEC Arena on Tuesday night when they play Joliet.
