Opening Day

Box Score The Chaparrals struck with a pair of first-half goals, but visiting College of Lake County answered back in its 3-2 win in Region 4 men's soccer Labor Day afternoon at Bjarne Ullsvik Stadium.

The Chaps (0-1 overall) are at Joliet on Saturday for a 10 a.m. kickoff.

COD got on the scoreboard in the 7th minute of the game when Jason Fuentes scored on a penalty kick. Francisco Hernandez earned the ball on a deep pass from Jacob Larson and Hernandez was tackled by the Lancers' GK.

Then in the 23rd minute, Rian Bautista gave the Chaps a 2-0 lead on an unassisted goal from about 35 yards on the left side of the Lancers' end.

"For our first time on the pitch, we played a pretty spirited game,'' head coach Zac Ludwig said. "We were on the defensive end way too much in the second half. We fought hard, but they kept knocking and got the lead.

Chaps' GK Juan Hernandez had nine saves.
