Sierra Gibson led College of DuPage with 15 points and Serenity McDaniel added 10, but visiting Carl Sandburg came from behind in the fourth quarter and held off the Chaparrals 59-53 in Region 4 women's basketball Thursday night.
 
COD, now 0-5 overall, closes the week Saturday at home against Wilbur Wright for a 1 p.m. tip.
 
The Chargers, who trailed 44-43 after three quarters, took command with a 10-0 run midway though the fourth quarter. McDaniel gave COD a 48-45 lead with 8:35 to go, and the Chargers stopped the Chaps in their tracks over the next five minutes with the pivotal run.
 
Elly Bentley and Lily Isenhour each led Carl Sandburg with 18 points. The Chargers dominated off the glass, out-rebounding COD 61-35.
 
"The energy we showed in the first half wasn't there in the final quarter when we needed it,'' head coach Abigail Talley said. "We're in search of a complete game. We're getting there. We need to work through the frustration. We got away from working together as a team. That's what got us the lead and allowed us to play well.''
 
Morgan Nesemeier scored nine off the bench. Alyssa Havard had seven points with a team-high seven rebounds.
