The Chaparrals ran into a tough slate of foes this weekend, losing both sets of a doubleheader at Illinois Central (Saturday) and at Carl Sandburg (Sunday).

Raquel Procopio provided the Chaps' key moment, hitting a two-run homer to center in the first she later added an RBI double and finished 3-for-3. Teammate
Kelsey Warren two hits. Cassie Bogzac accounted for the other hit

Illinois Central 11, Chaps 8
Alyssa Vansickle hit a one-out solo homer in the first. After trailing 7-3 through five innings, the Chaps mounted a comeback with a four-run sixth to tie the game at 7-7.
Elena Stevenson's two-run double brought the Chaps to within two runs. Procopio added a run-scoring single and two batters later, Jahaske delivered a single to left that tied the game at 7-7. But Illinois Central answered with a four-run lead of its own in the bottom of the sixth and went on to defeat the Chaps. Stevenson led with three RBI. Warren, Vansickle, Stevenson, Procopio all had two hits. Vansickle added a double with her homer.

Carl Sandburg 11, Chaps 5
Kelsey Warren led with three hits, including a double, but the Chargers took control with a four-run first, followed by a four-run fifth for the win. Vansickle got the Chaps going with an RBI-triple to left that brought in Warren. Â In the the second, Warren drove in
Gianna Maida with a double that cut the Chargers' lead to 4-3. Vansickle and Bogacz later added RBI singles. Vansickle, Procopio and
Chloe Warren all had two hits. Maida also added a double.

Carl Sandburg 13, Chaps 5
The Chargers raced to a 7-0 lead after three, and added six runs in the fifth.
Kelsey Warren had three hits, and
Paige Jahaske and
Kayla Smiley each had two hits. Smiley delivered a two-run single in the fourth to put the score, 7-2 Sandburg.
