W: Dasenbrock, Amber (4-4)

Game Recap: Softball | | Mark Reinhiller, Sports Information Coordinator

Rally pays off in the nightcap

The Chaparrals snapped a season-long seven-game losing streak in impressive fashion, rallying from eight runs for a split in their doubleheader over visiting Moraine Valley in Region IV softball.

COD now 10-20 overall, is at Kishwaukee on Saturday.

Game 1: Moraine Valley 12, Chaparrals 8
Alyssa Vansickle paced the Chaps with two hits, and Raquel Procopio and Amber Dasenbrock each had two RBI in the defeat. The Chaps, who never led, tied the game at 8-8 in the fourth, thanks to their three-run, three-hit effort. Gianna Maida keyed the inning with a two-out single that scored Elena Stevenson, who reached base on a single. But over the final three innings, the Chaps had just one batter — Cassie Bogacz — reach base and the Cyclones rallied with a four-run seventh.

Game 2: Chaparrals 9, Moraine Valley 8
Dasenbrock drove in the walk-off run with a single to left and the Chaps earned the split by scoring four runs in the seventh. Down 8-1 after four innings, COD scored twice in the fifth and sixth innings to draw within four runs of the lead. Procopio led off the seventh with a single to left, and four batters later with two outs, Kayla Smiley drove in Procopio with a single to third.  Maida followed with a single, and then Kelsey Warren hit a hard ground ball to third that was bungled, and  both pinch-runner Chloe Warren and Maida scored, while Warren reached second on the play. And that set-up Dasenbrock, who came through with the game-winner. Kelsey Warren had three hits, and on the mound, Dasenbrock earned the win.
