The host Chaparrals, who are ranked No. 8 in this week's NJCAA Division III poll, grabbed the lead early and held off Division I South Suburban 9-6 in Region 4 baseball Tuesday afternoon.
 
Jeremy Conforti went 4-for-5 and scored three runs as COD improved to 11-4 overall heading into Thursday's home game against McHenry County. First pitch is 3 p.m.
 
Designated hitter 
Seth Borden hit a one-out, two-run double in the first, the third straight hit in the inning after 
Carson Roberts (single) and 
Jeremy Conforti (double) got the Chaps going.
 
Kyle Fenner added a two-run double in the third and the Chaps added two more runs in the fourth with 
A.J. Taylor (single) and Conforti (double) crossing the plate.
 
Leading 5-2 after six innings, the Chaps unloaded with a four-run,  two-hit, two-error seventh. 
David Marshall's single scored 
Cliff Vickers and Fenner, and Taylor and Roberts added back-to-back run-scoring singles for a 9-2 lead.
 
RHP 
Justin Lane gave the Chaps six innings in a solid start. He scattered six hits, gave up two runs (both earned) and struck out just two with three walks.
 
Borden earned the save in one inning of relief.
