Chaps show power in Milwaukee Area TC split

Facing an uphill climb in its doubleheader against Milwaukee Area TC on Monday, the Chaparrals pulled out a victory out of nowhere to secure a split in Region 4 and N4C play, losing 3-0 in the opener and winning 17-7 in nine innings.

COD, now 23-12 overall, will not face its originally scheduled foe Prairie State on Tuesday due to inclement weather.

The Chaps return home Wednesday when they take on Oakton in a 9-inning game that begins at 6:30 p.m. at Les Pfund Field in Carol Stream.

Game 1: Milwaukee Area TC 3, Chaparrals 0
The host Stormers got the edge thanks to a pair of unearned runs and allowed just four hits, all singles, from the Chaparrals. COD had just two runners reach third base and left 14 runners on base. They received base hits from A.J. Taylor, Carson Roberts, Joe Cosenza and David Marshall. LHP Frankie Klemm went the distance, giving up six hits, while striking out two and issuing two walks.

Game 2: Chaparrals 17, Milwaukee Area TC 7 9 innings
Trailing 7-2 through six innings, the Chaps responded by tying the game with a five-run, four-hit seventh, keyed by Taylor's three-run home run to left that cut the deficit to 7-5. Cliff Vickers and Roberts sandwiched singles around a Jeremy Conforti flyout. One out later, Cosenza tied the game at 7-each on his two-run single to right. After a scoreless eighth from both teams, the Chaps overpowered the Storms with their 10-run, nine-hit ninth. Cosenza gave the Chaps the lead with a three-run double and two batters later, Marshall came through on a two-run single and COD led 12-7. Taylor immediately followed on a two-run double. Conforti padded the lead with a two-run single and the Chaps had their final margin, thanks to Ben Steiner's RBI-ground ball to left. Cosenza, who homered in the fifth, had three hits and six RBI. Taylor added five RBI on three hits and Roberts also had three hits. Evan Ryan threw four innings of relief and earned the win.
