Chaps denied season opener

Box Score Four unanswered second-half goals by Region IV finalist Prairie State spoiled the Chaps men's season opener in a 5-2 loss at Bjarne Ullsvik Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

A one-on-one opportunity from Blazo Jovicevic in the first minute of the second half broke a 1-1 tie and seemingly gave the Chaps an early edge for the final 45-minute period.

But the Pioneers, who scored two of the four second-half goals off corner kicks, were a bit more formidable on a wet afternoon on the COD pitch.

"For our first time out this season, I was happy with our discipline and how were were structured defensively,'' head coach Zac Ludwig said. "I thought we built from our attack. The rain made things a bit difficult, but (Prairie State) dealt with that, too.

Noe Blanco gave the Chaps a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute on an unassisted goal.

"Really, we're only three weeks in and we'll start to see finding our stride at the six-week mark. We need to sharpen our game and we want to build from our own half and extend out.

"We've had great energy this month. We're a deep squad with a nice mix of returners and new recruits. They want to push and compete and we celebrate our successes. We need to build upon it and get ready to go for next week.''

The Chaps take on Oakton at home Wednesday.
