Milwaukee Area TC, ranked third in NJCAA Division II, showed its might by handing the Chaparrals a 90-67 defeat Thursday night in N4C men's basketball.
Â
The Chaps, now 10-9 overall, complete the week Saturday at Wilbur Wright.
Â
The Stormers (16-2 overall) took control on a 16-6 run late in the first half and led 39-28 at the break. COD got as close as seven early in the second half after a
Drew Gaston shot inside that cut MATC's lead to 49-42 with 14:42 to go.
Â
But over the next four minutes, MATC built the lead to 15 and secured the win.
Â
The Stormers outrebounded the Chaps 64-30 and held the Chaps to just eight offensive rebounds, while grabbing 25 of their own.
Â
Gaston led the Chaps with 15 points and
Alijah Nelson had 11.
Matt Elliott added 10 points with a team-high seven rebounds.
Â
"I thought we played very well, despite the disparity in size,'' Chaps head coach
Joe Kuhn said. Â "The fight and the resolve are what I take out of tonight. Their rebounding was tough, and ultimately, the difference of the game was the rebounding differential. We battled extremely hard. We'll get after it Saturday at Wilbur Wright.''
