Chaps win N4C title

The Chaps are the 2022-23 N4C Champions.
 
Behind a starting five that all scored in double figures, the Chaps needed overtime to defeat host Milwaukee Area TC 77-74 on Tuesday.
 
COD went 5-1 in its six-game conference schedule in the victory against the Stormers, and then finished the week Saturday with a 65-49 win over Sauk Valley on Sophomore Day.
 
The Chaps take on South Suburban on Monday in their home closer, then face Lake County on the road Thursday. They finish the regular season at Sauk Valley on Feb. 20.
 
Against MATC, Sierra Gibson scored 18 points, followed by Mykah Berkompas' 17. Katlyn Allen had 15, Korriana Wilson 13 and Alyssa Havard 12.
 
The Chaps jumped out to a 26-14 lead after the first quarter and held on to the lead until the fourth quarter.
 
Berkompas gave the Chaps a 67-62 lead with a pair of free throws with 41 seconds remaining in regulation, but they didn't score again and MATC rallied with a three-point play from Brooklyn Davis and a jumper from Sania Thomas with 18 seconds left.
 
In OT, Allen broke a 73-73 tie with a jumper with 48 seconds left and she later hit a pair of free throws for the final margin with 15 seconds left.
 
Chaparrals 65, Sauk Valley 49
Berkompas led the Chaps with 19 points on Sophomore Day in a victory the Skyhawks.
 
COD, which has won 12 of its last 17 games after opening 1-8, honored its nine sophomores in a pregame ceremony.
 
The Chaps grabbed a 10-0 run in the third quarter that put them in control, leading 48-32 on Alyssa Havard's field goal with 1:01 left.
 
Havard added 14 points, with Gibson (12) and Allen (10).
 
Those sophomores honored were: Allen, Berkompas, Havard, Serenity McDaniel, Chloey Myers, Morgan Nesemeier, Natalia Saba, Kayla Smiley, and Wilson.
