College of DuPage dominated early and extended its season with an impressive 84-80 victory over host Joliet Junior College in a Region 4 D3 semifinal game Friday night.
Â
The victory places the Chaparrals (18-13) in Sunday afternoon's title game against Madison College (16-13) with a 3:30 p.m. tip.
Â
COD, behind
Drew Gaston's 25 points and
Matt Elliott's double-double (22 points, 12 rebounds) led 45-24 at halftime and relied upon that 19-point lead through the remainder of the game for the victory.
Â
Gaston needs just four points in Sunday's game to become just the sixth player in school history to scored 1,000 career points.
Â
The Chaps dealt 17 assists on 33 field goals, thanks to
Finn Walsh earning eight assists and
Alijah Nelson's three.
Â
COD looks to earn its first regional title since winning in 2009.
