The inaugural season of Chaparrals men's volleyball came to a close Saturday afternoon and the success for the 2023 team capitalized with a fourth-place finish at the NJCAA Invitational, hosted by COD.
 
The Chaps went 2-4 on the tournament, closing with a victory over Ocean County (N.J.), a loss to eventual champion Finger Lakes and a loss to season-long nemesis Bryant & Stratton on Saturday.
 
Finger Lakes defeated Monroe 3-1 for the tourney title.
 
COD finished 2023 with an 8-13 record.
 
Chaps 3, Ocean 1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23)

• Michael Lipowski's 14 kills and .550 attack percentage led to the win
• Mike Fenley added 12 kills
• COD hit .186 for the win
• Phurin Kosumpiinun, Fenley, Kevin Jones, Lipowski each had two aces
• Lipowski defended well with two solo blocks

 
Finger Lakes 3, Chaps 0 (25-22-25-16, 25-16)

• Fenley's nine kills led the way
• Kosumpiinun dealt 20 assists
• Lipowski and Kosumpiinun both had two aces

 
Bryant & Stratton 3, Chaps 1 (25-16, 25-17, 15-25, 25-17)

• The Chaps went 1-3 against the Bobcats on the season
• Erik Perez and Lipowski each had nine kills
• Jones and Kosumpiinun each had three aces
