Jason Hufnagle scored with just over 8 minutes to go to give Dupage a 2-1 win over Wilbur Wright in their season opener on Saturday afternoon in Chicago.
Hufnagle scored off of a set piece with an assist from
Dominic Landato to break the 1-1 tie and then held on for their first victory of the Fall 25 campaign. Hufnagle also had a hand in the first Chap goal, assisting on
Beckham Cournaya's first half goal that gave the Chaps a 1-0 lead. Wilbur Wright tied the game with a penalty kick early in the second half, which set the stage for Hufnagle's game winner.
" As a coaching staff, we're excited to see the boys grind out results when faced with adversity" stated Head Coach
Matt Hanna. He also added that "
Jason Hufnagle did an excellent job today on both sides of the ball. We love seeing him join the attack as a wingback and dominate in the air on set pieces-where he scored our winning goal."
The Chaps will take their 1-0 record on the road once again on Thursday when they travel to DeKalb to take on Kishwaukee College. Game time is set for 2:00 PM as the first game of a Men's and Women's soccer doubleheader.
