Men's Soccer tops South Suburban in thrilling finish

Goal in 85th minute propels Chaps

The College of DuPage men's soccer team took on the Bulldogs of South Suburban College, yesterday Sept. 16, at Bjarne Ullsvik Stadium. DuPage was quickly down 0-2, but displayed a gritty effort in the 2nd period to net a 3-2 win.

Head coach Matt Hanna had this to say regarding his team's dramatic finish, "It wasn't the start we were after but happy with the resilience we showed. We've made a habit of competing in every game so far this season and that's been pleasing to see."

After falling behind 2-0, Luis Gutierrez scored in the 55th minute on an assist from Daniel Miranda, giving the Chaps new life. Miranda then found the back of the net in the 79th minute, assisted by Gutierrez, to tie the match at 2-2. Just five minutes later, Daniel Mendez delivered the game-winning goal, set up by Jason Hufnagle, completing a thrilling late rally.

Goalkeeper Diego Ochoa was instrumental in the win, making 11 saves on 13 shots on goal to keep the Bulldogs at bay once the Chaps defense settled down.

DuPage, now 5-1-1 on the season will look to start fast this Friday, Sept. 19 as they host Waubonsee Community College at Bjarne Ullsvik Stadium.
