Bobby Wilson begins his sixth season as head coach of the Chaparrals in 2024.
In 2023, the Chaparrals were consistently ranked among the nation's top 15 teams and finished with a 34-17 overall record. All-American and Region 4 Player of the Year second baseman A.J. Taylor and fellow All-American center fielder Kyle Fenner keyed the Chaps' attack, along with All-Region shortstop David Marshall and third baseman Joe Cosenza.Â
In Wilson's five seasons, he has accrued a 121-78-1 record and led the Chaps to the Region 4 title game in 2022. First baseman/designated hitter Jeremy Conforti earned All-Amercan honors, and LHP Frankie Klemm, 2B A.J. Taylor and OF Carson Roberts earned All-Region 4 honors.Â
A promising 2020 season was cut short after nine games due to COVID. The Chaps went 27-24 in 2021 with CF Cliff Vickers earning an ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove and freshman RHP Zak Fischer named an NJCAA All-American.
The Chaps enjoyed a 27-18-1 overall record and a second-place finish in the N4C in Wilson's interim season as head coach in 2019. He was named head coach upon completion of the season.
He spent the previous five seasons as the Chaparrals associate head coach. During those five seasons, Wilson directed the team’s hitting and infield where the Chaps flourished. COD finished in the top 25 in hits in each of the last five seasons. The 2015 squad finished in the top 25 in 14 offense categories with Javier Martinez leading the nation in RBI.
Â
Wilson attended Aurora University where he played for head coach Shaun Neitzel and earned his bachelor’s degree in coaching and youth sport development. He helped Aurora to three conference titles and three NCAA Division III Tournament appearances.  He finished his playing career as the school’s leader in at-bats (641), singles (178) and fielding assists (489).
