Teionte Mitchell led the Chaparrals with 12 points, but it wasn't enough as visiting Moraine Valley pulled away in the second half and handed COD an 84-71 loss in nonconference play Tuesday night at the COD Arena.
The Chaparrals, now 1-10, are off for the Holiday break and begin N4C play Jan. 3 at Triton College. They are not home until Jan. 12 when they face Harper College.
COD played inspired ball in the first half, thanks to the efforts of reserves
Jordan Devitt and
Donnell Fraley. Devitt scored six first-half points in 10 minutes of play, and Fraley pumped in eight as COD shot 48 percent from the floor (15 of 31). But the visiting Cyclones were even better, hitting 15 of 30 from the field and outscoring the Chaps, 9-0 on 3-pointers for a 45-34 lead at the break.
A free throw from
Jason Peace cut the Cylcones' lead to four (49-45) with 14:52 to go. But Moraine Valley answered with an 11-0 spurt and remained out front by double digits for the game.
David Spell had 11 for the Chaparrals and Devitt finished with 10.
