Franklin Montgomery vs Madison

Men's Basketball Mark Reinhiller

Second-half struggle

Box Score GLEN ELLYN — The challenge of playing from behind cost the Chaparrals in their 59-52 loss to visiting Madison College in N4C men's play Wednesday night.

The Chaps (2-14, 1-4) were led by David Spell's 15 points and Jason Peace followed with 14, but it was not enough to stop the WolfPack (10-7, 4-2).

The Chaps led for only 13 seconds in the second half and never could get over the hump. They trailed by as many as nine and made their run trailing 46-39 with 10:20 remaining.

Free throws from Spell and Khyre Hines brought the Chaps to within four. Three minutes later, Peace gave his team the only lead of the half on the second of two free throws and COD led 48-47 with 6:39 left. But a mini 6-0 run put Madison back on top and it led by at least two possessions for the remaining five minutes.

The Chaps committed 32 turnovers, despite outrebounding Madison, 44-27.

Coach William Anderson and the Chaps are at Joliet on Saturday.
