Stretch play helps Chaps

A young Chaparrals squad played a more inspired second half in their 74-64 loss to visiting Prairie State in NJCAA Region IV men's basketball Saturday afternoon.

Top scorers
Freshman Isaiah Davis led the Chaps (0-5 overall) with 16 points and Evan Wagner-Talley followed with 11 and 10 rebounds. Latron Kirkwood was next with nine points.

The second half
The Chaparrals trailed by as many as 21 points in the first half, and played better ball after trailing 60-40 with 7:54 remaining. They outscored the Pioneers 24-10 with three 3s — one each from Davis, Patrick Shaughnessy and Kirkwood. Wagner-Talley converted on and-one for his three-point play.
