Karen Martini threw a gem Thursday afternoon, shutting out Bay College with an eight-strikeout, three-hitter as College of DuPage bounced back in an 8-0 victory as play continued during its Spring Break trip at Titusville, Fla.

Martini threw 100 pitches and all three hits were singles and she allowed only one runner to reach third base.
Â
The Chaparrals took control early, scoring five runs on four hits and benefited from one error — all with two outs.
Sarah Crosby singled, and
Angela Pfotenhauer doubled on a line drive to left. Martini followed with an infield error that brought in two runs.
Alyssa Pham reached on a hit by pitch, and
Ashley Eiermann put the score at 3-0 on a two-run double to center.

Kate Koska then added another RBI double and COD led 5-0.

Pfotenhauer added a run-scoring single in the third, and COD scored twice in the sixth, the final tally on a
Gaby Morales single that scored Koska.

Andrea Richards went 3-for-4 to lead the 12-hit barrage.

In the opener, COD lost 8-2 to County College of Morris. Richards and Koska each doubled, while Morales went 2-for-2.

The Chaps, now 2-9, play Rowan College of Gloucester County and Suffolk Community College on Friday.
