CHICAGO — The Chaparrals continued their quality play in April, taking a doubleheader from Olive-Harvey on Thursday, 5-1 and 10-5 in nonconference play.
Coach
Bobby Wilson's team has won eight of its last nine games and improved to 17-12-1 overall. The Chaparrals (5-1 N4C) resume conference play Saturday at MATC-Milwaukee.
About the opener
The Chaparrals took control with a four-run second, thanks to a two-run single from
Conor Fitzgerald. He added a run-scoring single in the sixth and finished 3-for-4 and three RBI.
Cam Steffens added three hits, while
Bobby O'Donnell doubled and
Corey Vondra tripled.
Chris Donahue went the distance for the victory, striking out two and allowing only four hits.
And in the second
Nico Gutierrez stood tall for the Chaps, going 3-for-4 with four RBI in the twin-bill sweep. His two-run single in the third capped a five-run inning.
Mitch Sandleback,
Dan Opem and
Kyle Ferguson had two hits apiece, and Sandleback, Opem and
Josh Veroeven each doubled.
Matt Anderson earned the victory in relief of starter
Jake Berger.
