Chaps sweep past Triton

The Chaparrals brought their bats and received a quality pitching performance from Tommy Louch in their 12-8, 9-2 sweep over visiting Triton College in their N4C Conference opener for both teams.
 
College of DuPage (12-11-1, 2-0) plays at Morton College on Thursday.
 
About Game 1
A six-run third inning, capped by consecutive doubles from Corey Vondra and Dan Opem put the Chaps in control. Overall, they out-hit the Tritons, 13-9.
 
Climbing back
COD trailed 3-0 before it had a chance to hit when Triton grabbed the advantage in the first. Opem connected on a three-run homer in the second.
 
Fumagalli on fire
Anthony Fumagalli, who had his 17-game hitting streak end against Elgin last week, went 4-for-4 with two doubles.
 
On the hill
Starting LHP Elijah Rochon went four innings and earned the win. He had five strikeouts.
 
About Game 2
Freshman RHP Tommy Louch threw no-hit ball for four innings until Troy Jones led off the fifth with a single through the right side. He went the distance, striking out three, walking two and giving up just two hits. Both runs allowed in the seventh were unearned.
 
Big Bats
Fumagalli hit a three-run home run in the sixth and was 2-for-3 with a double.  Vondra delivered a two-run homer to center in the third and also had a double. Mike Wagner hit a run-scoring double in the sixth.
 
Putting it away
COD, which led 3-0, scored six runs in the sixth and sent 10 batters to the plate.
