Chaps swept in N4C finale

Madison College's strong arms were the difference makers as the Chaparrals dropped a doubleheader to the WolfPack, losing 3-1 and 6-3 in N4C Conference play.

The games marked the completion of the conference season for the Chaps, who finished 8-4. They'll take their 20-15-1 overall record into Saturday's doubleheader at Kankakee.

Game 1:
Madison RHP Troy Hickey struck out 11 in 6 1/3 innings and the WolfPack scored all three of their runs in the third. The Chaps avoided the shutout when Jack Oberli scored on a ground out by Simon Marinelli in the sixth. Marinelli, Oberli and Dan Opem all singled for the Chaps. Jonny Vesevick struck out five in 6 2/3 innings. He issued just one walk and gave up six hits.

Game 2:
Madison broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth with three runs and totaled 11 hits for the sweep. Rocco Pascente gave the Chaps a 1-0 lead in the first on his RBI-single to right that scored Anthony Fumagalli. Mike Wagner had a RBI-single of his own in the fourth. The Chaps concluded their scoring on Pascente's run-scoring single in the sixth. Both Pascente and Wagner led with two hits apiece. Reliever Kolten Kapusinski had three strikeouts in two innings, while Austin Reed struck out two in his 1 1/3 inning.
