Big bats tell the story

The Chaparrals brought their bats in their largest offensive production in 2019 with a 12-4 and 15-1 doubleheader sweep over visiting College of Lake County in nonconference softball Wednesday afternoon.

The sweep ended the Chaps' three-game losing streak and places their overall record at 10-29 overall heading into Thursday's N4C finale against Joliet Junior College at Sark Park. Game time is 3 p.m.

Game 1: Chaps 12, Lake County 4
Karen Martini led the Chaps on the mound and at the plate in the game that was shortened after six innings. She led with a 3-for-5 game with three RBI, while striking out five and allowing five hits for the victory.

COD took control with a five-run second inning, thanks to Martin's two-run single. An inning later, Angela Flammini delivered a two-run single of her own and the Chaps were never threatened by the Lancers.

Alyssa Pham and Gaby Morales each doubled for the Chaps, and Angela Pfotenhauer joined Martini and Flammini with a multiple-RBI game (1-for-2, 2 RBI).

Game 2: Chaps 15, Lake County 1
The nightcap belonged to Sarah Crosby, who led the Chaps with a 3-for-3 effort and five RBI. Leading 3-0, the Chaps put the game out of reach with a nine-run third and 14 plate appearances.

Kate Koska was 3-for-3 with two RBI, while Veronica Swan drove in three runs and Pham and Ashley Eiermann each had two RBI.

Koska and Swan each doubled.
