Chaps extended against Joliet

The host Chaparrals pushed fifth-ranked Joliet into extra innings Thursday, but the visitors took over with a four-run eighth inning in a 5-1 Chaps loss in an N4C Conference doubleheader at Sark Park.

The second game belonged to the Wolves, who won 13-2 in five innings.

The Chaps, now 10-31 overall, finished conference play 1-11. They are at Prairie State on Friday.

Game 1: Joliet 5, Chaparrals 1

Starter Karen Martini worked her way out of trouble on multiple occasions and her ability kept the Chaps in the game. Joliet had runners in scoring position in the second, third and fourth inning, but the Chaps worked their way out of the jams to keep the Wolves scoreless.

Joliet took the 1-0 lead in the seventh when Isabel Ortiz hit an RBI-double with two outs. But the Chaps answered in their half of the inning. Kate Koska led off with a single and reached third with two outs. Vincenza Zaccaro tied the game at 1-1 on a single to center.

However, Joliet came back with a four-run eighth for the win.

Andrea Richards and Zaccaro each doubled for the Chaps.

Game 2: Joliet 13, Chaparrals 2 5 innings
Joliet put the game out of reach, thanks to its seven-run, six-hit fifth.

Kiara Negron doubled for the Chaps.
