The Chaparrals earned a split Thursday during continuing play at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C., losing 11-8 to Salem (N.J.) Community College and defeating Penn State Mont Alto 18-14.
 
The Chaps conclude their Spring Break trip Thursday, playing Southern Maine and Salem.
 
Salem 11, Chaparrals 8
Cliff Vickers and 
Steven Salvino each had three hits with a home run, and 
Jack Oberli also homered in the loss.
 
Salem which trailed 5-4 after five innings, answered with a four-run sixth and a three-run seventh for the win.
 
Chaparrals 18, Penn State Mont Alto 14
Vickers produced a dream game at the plate, going 4 for 5 with two home runs (a grand slam in the third), a double and a triple. He missed hitting for the cycle when he flew out to center in the seventh.
 
He finished with nine RBI.
 
The Chaps totaled 13 hits with 
Patrick Doran hitting a double and a home run. Hitting doubles were  
Giovanni Lopez, 
Danny Holloway and 
Zion Baker. 
Seth Borden joined Vickers with a triple.
 
Doran finished with three RBI and Baker two RBI.
 
Coach 
Bobby Wilson's team scored multiple runs in each of the first five innings and led 18-9 entering the home half of the fifth.
 
Jacob Ferguson had three strikeouts in the final three innings
