Box Score Grace Franz led the No 6 Chaparrals with 25 kills, but top-ranked Rock Valley came back and earned a 3-2 victory Tuesday night in Region 4 volleyball at the PEC Arena.
Â
The Chaps fell to 18-11 overall and close the regular season next week with three home matches, beginning Tuesday night against Milwaukee Area TC.
Â
The 30-28, 20-25, 20-25, 25-21, 15-13 defeat was a back-and-forth match before the Golden Eagles found momentum in the final two sets.
Â
Chaps head coach
Tolis Koskinaris tipped his visor to the rival and noted the match was much like last month's in Rockford, that also went in favor of the Golden Eagles in five sets.
Â
"We came out just a little too loose in the fourth set and found ourselves down,'' he said. "The positive we're taking out of this really is the last lesson of learning volleyball at the collegiate level: You have to close out when you get the chance.''
Â
After the Golden Eagles outlasted the Chaps in the opening set that featured six ties late, beginning at 19-19, the Chaps bounced back with sound play in the second and third sets.
Â
In the second, COD grabbed an early 11-8 lead and never relinquished it. And in the third, COD led from the outset, building an eight-point lead twice, the last at 20-12.
Â
RVC jumped out front in the fourth, and while the Chaps narrowed the game at 14-13, the Golden Eagles used a 3-1 spurt and forged ahead for the win.
Â
In the fifth, RVC built leads of 4-0, 9-3 and 12-7 before the Chaps got to within a point of the lead at 14-13, thanks to their 6-1 run.
