Chaps close regular season with four straight sweeps ahead of Region 4 Championship

The College of DuPage volleyball team closed its regular season with four consecutive 3-0 victories, sweeping Triton College, Oakton College, Kishwaukee College and the College of Lake County from Oct. 21-24.

The Chaparrals (28-9) enter the postseason ranked first in NJCAA Division III in kills and have won nine of their last 10 matches heading into the NJCAA DIII Region 4 Championship, which COD will host Tuesday, Oct. 28.

COD opened the four-match stretch with a 25-23, 25-6, 25-21 sweep of Triton on Oct. 21 during Sophomore Night. The Chaps celebrated their sophomores by starting an all-sophomore lineup, which delivered a three-set victory on their home court.

Chloe Wickham led the Chaparrals with eight kills, while Zoey Aldarondo added seven kills and three service aces. Amani Harrington recorded 13 digs, and Amirah Harrington finished with 31 assists. Cailen Sadkowski and Isabella Furmanski each contributed 1.5 blocks.

The Chaps followed with another sweep Oct. 22, defeating Oakton 25-22, 25-14, 25-16. Claire Rambasek paced the offense with 13 kills, while Furmanski added nine and Aldarondo chipped in eight. Rambasek entered the postseason ranked sixth nationally in NJCAA DIII with 361 kills.

Addisyn Gardner distributed the offense with 24 assists and added seven service aces. Gardner leads NJCAA DIII with 113 service aces. Amirah Harrington contributed 10 assists in the victory.

COD continued its winning streak Oct. 24 during the Chaps Triangular, sweeping Kishwaukee 25-21, 25-16, 25-23 before closing the day with a 25-12, 25-19, 31-29 victory over the College of Lake County.

Against Kishwaukee, Rambasek again led the Chaps with 12 kills. Furmanski and Sadkowski each added six kills, while Gardner and Amani Harrington recorded three service aces apiece. Furmanski also contributed two blocks.

Sadkowski led COD against Lake County with 10 kills, while Wendalyn Pollak and Furmanski each finished with seven. The Chaps' final set proved to be their toughest of the four-match stretch, as they needed extra points to secure a 31-29 victory and complete the sweep. Pollak and Furmanski each recorded six service aces, and Amirah Harrington led the team with 21 assists. Malia Johnson and Aldarondo each tallied seven digs.

The four victories give the Chaparrals momentum heading into the postseason, where they will look to defend their home court at the NJCAA DIII Region 4 Championship on Oct. 28. With a 28-9 record, nine wins in their last 10 matches and the nation's top ranking in kills, COD enters the regional tournament ready to continue its strong play.
