No. 2 Chaps use quick-strike offense in 41-0 win

Box Score Coaches love to say how much time of possession matters.

Take for example the display the No. 2-ranked Chaparrals had over visiting Erie College on Saturday. The Chaps totaled six touchdowns in a cumulative span of 6 minutes and 39 seconds en route to a 41-0 victory at Bjarne Ullsvik Stadium.

Head coach Matthew Rahn chalked up the day to proper execution of plays.

"We took advantage of the bye week, and made an emphasis by stressing execution,'' he said. "We were able to slow things down and stick to basics.''

The Chaps took advantage right away in the first quarter when Darrell Smith scored on a 25-yard touchdown, that was set-up by quarterback Jarred Park's 28-yard pass to Lazerick Eatman.

After a Michael Simon interception on Erie's next possession, the Chaps pushed the lead to 14-0 on a 26-yard TD strike from Park to Myles McKatherine with 11:44 to go in the quarter.

A 49-yard TD reception to Eatman from Park, and a 10-yard TD run from Lavale Hill extended the Chaps' lead to 27-0 at halftime.

Then in the final quarter, Taveon Porter added a 8-yard TD run and Weston Sisson finished up the scoring on an 8-yard TD pass from back-up QB Peyton Brown.

"We got off to a hot start, thanks to sound offensive line play and Jarred moved the chains,'' Rahn said. "Sisson got a big TD late. And on defense, the usual suspects stepped up and got a well-deserved shutout.''

The Chaps, now 3-1 overall, are off next week and now prepare for a 1-2 battle with top-ranked Nassau on Oct. 16 in Long Island, N.Y.
