Drew Gaston scored 17 points and Abram Ross added 15 points with 10 rebounds as the host Chaparrals outlasted Wilbur Wright 54-45 in Region 4 men's basketball Friday night.
 
The victory evened the Chaps' record at 2-2 overall heading into Tuesday night's game at Elgin.
 
The game was close throughout until COD used a 6-0 spurt with 7:47 to go. A Gaston bucket put the Chaps up 42-39 and they remained out front. Gaston later gave the Chaps a 52-43 lead with two minutes remaining.
 
Gaston was 6 of 15 from the floor, and Ross was 6 of 12.
 
Defensively, the Chaps helped themselves by holding the Rams to a 30-percent effort from the field.
 
Amaris Hughes had eight points off the bench. Joe Bell had five points with nine boards, and Alexie Vlahos added five points.
